Below are some frequently asked questions that will help you get to know us better.
What is ImpACT?
Impact is a non-profit organization that provides academic enrichment and life mentorship for Oakland’s inner city children. We started in 1992 with the goal to instill the love of learning and dream of college in each of our students.
When and where do you meet?
We meet once a week on Sundays from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Garfield Elementary Multi-Purpose Room. Please stay tuned for any updates. We also take the children on field trips once a month on designated Saturdays.
What kind of enrichment do you provide?
Kids begin the day with an hour-long Academic Explorer unit on science, engineering, math, reading comprehension, social studies, or art topics. Half an hour is devoted to more rigorous academic tutoring and homework help. Kids end the day with lunch and fun games. Check out our Courses
Children are also paired with a teacher who establishes one-on-one mentorship throughout the week, primarily through phone calls. Once a month, kids attend educational field trips.
What age group do you target?
We accept 1st through 4th graders.
Does my kid have to go to Garfield, or live in Oakland to attend?
Not at all! Although most of our kids are from Franklin and Garfield Elementary schools, all 1st to 4th graders are welcome.
Is it free?
Yes, it is 100% free!

Volunteers are UC Berkeley and SF State alumni. Meet our Staff
