Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions that will help you get to know us better.

What is ImpACT?

Impact is a non-profit organization that provides academic enrichment and life mentorship for Oakland’s inner city children. We started in 1992 with the goal to instill the love of learning and dream of college in each of our students.

When and where do you meet?

We generally meet once a week on Sundays from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm in Garfield Elementary Multi-Purpose Room. We release a calendar of the dates we are in session.

What kind of enrichment do you provide?

Kids begin the day with an hour-long Academic Explorer unit on science, engineering, math, reading comprehension, social studies, or art topics. We offer optional academic tutoring and homework help. Kids end the day with snacks and fun games. Check out our Courses

Children are also paired with a teacher who establishes one-on-one mentorship, primarily through phone calls and time at Impact.

What age group do you target?

We accept 2nd through 5th graders who live in the San Antonio District of Oakland.

Is it free?

Yes, it is 100% free!

Where are the volunteers from?

Volunteers are UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and SF State alumni.
