Exploratory Classes

We offer exploratory classes for Oakland students in the following subjects:

• Phenomenal Physics
• For the Love of Chemistry
• Arts and Crafts
• Model Making
  (Construct a model of the new Bay Bridge!)
• Sound of Music
• Chess for Life
• Real Robotics

About a block and a half from school, there are examples of drugs, alcohol, prostitution and gang activity… We need role models who look different than the person on the street, role models who share the child’s goals and aspirations. He is the one who is going to have the most impact with the boys and girls I deal with… From the moment ImpACT came onto the campus to talk to the boys and girls up until the very last day, the children could not stop talking about it. When the first Springfest was over, the children told me that they could not believe that time had gone by so fast. They mentioned the people who worked with them, who baked with them and who took them to Golden Gate Park. It was not a program anymore. ImpACT’s goal had been achieved. The group had become individualized, and my students were refering to specific people. So the idea of connecting one person to another had been achieved, making your program a success.
